Mika, a two-year-old Labrador retriever poodle mix, is bursting with love and so excited to find her forever home! She came to Madison from Texas, where she was found as a stray. Mika’s endless affection and excitement make her a wonderful companion.
She knows how to sit on command and is super food-motivated, always eager to please. Mika is a great leash walker and responds well to commands with the leash. As she gets used to our cold weather, she prefers to wear a coat outside.
We’re working on crate training and helping her with some separation anxiety. Mika sleeps in her crate all night and is comfortable as long as it’s in our bedroom. While we’re away, she’s in her crate, and we’re practicing staying calm inside. Right now, our resident dog stays in the same room to keep her company. Mika loves a Kong filled with peanut butter to help her relax during crate time and she enjoys chewing on a bone. Mika is a pro during bath time and loves being brushed.
Mika is a snuggle bug and will make herself right at home next to you. She’s a sweet girl who loves to be petted and is thrilled to greet you. She’s pretty good at not jumping up on people, though we’re still working on general manners.
Overall, Mika would do great in a home where someone is around often. She has so much love to give and gets a little stressed when left alone. Mika gets along well with our dog, but she can be a bit possessive of her toys and people. She would really benefit from the guidance of a confident dog who can teach her the ropes.
