PUPDATE 2
Parker has been with us for over 2 weeks now and really settling into our home. Now that he’s more comfortable and less nervous he does enjoy being inside during the day, taking more naps. He remains 100% accident-free, and is a great sleeper in his kennel, not a peep for 12 hours overnight. He enjoys his dog toys, and 95% of the time knows the difference between his chew toys and any other household item. He has also met more people in the neighborhood, and is timid/cautious (but never aggressive) for the first few minutes, but once he warms up he seems to love everyone, all ages!
PUPDATE 1
Parker wakes up when he hears his foster parents wake up around 6 am. He could sleep longer if the house was quiet. He then goes outside in the fenced yard to go to the bathroom and then runs around by himself or with his foster family’s dog for an hour or two to get some energy out. Then he comes in, eats breakfast, checks in on the rest of the family. During the day he’ll be let in/out of the yard, play with his foster kids during online school breaks, and wonder around the house looking for attention. He takes some short naps but is mostly active. If he wants to rest, he’ll go in is kennel on his own with a chew toy. Around 6-7pm he eats dinner, takes one last run around the yard, and usually puts himself to bed in his kennel around 7-8pm and sleeps great the whole night, not a peep.
He is a busy body inside on the move a lot, but Parker is polite and respectful to humans. He does not jump on anyone inside the house. He has not yet grabbed food off the table/counter. Outside he has a lot of puppy energy but follows cues from people whether it’s time to play or not. He’s timid of strangers at first but warms up quickly. He also barks inside the home when he sees people/dogs walking by. We have used a vibrating bark collar on him that he responds to well.
Parker lives with three kids right now in his foster home. (Ages 5-11) He is wonderful with the children. He may even like kids better than adults! He can play rough sometimes but with corrective behavior he will stop without complaint.
Parker has a high energy level. In his foster home he runs around in a large, fenced yard playing with the kids and a dog. We take him on a few short walks, and he is still learning how to walk on a leash. He has gone on a couple of runs with his foster mom and although he still pulls on the leash, he has great energy and enjoyed the run thoroughly. With a little more leash training, he will make a great running buddy.
He gets along great with the female dog in his foster home. He used to live with two other dogs before coming to fetch due to his owner passing away with COVID. Since being in foster care he hasn’t had many opportunities to meet other dogs outside the home. He’ll bark briefly when he sees another dog on a walk but is easily redirected.
Parker has two cats in his foster home. They mostly keep their distance from the dogs. When Parker was introduced, he was ambivalent towards the friendly cat. The other (unfriendly) cat hissed at him, and he responded by barking and wanting to chase her.
When left alone, he stays in his kennel with some toys. We always make sure he gets a lot of exercise before leaving him for short periods during the day to assure he sleeps.
Parker will be a great family dog for an active family willing to work on some basic training with him!
