Mr. Martin

Labrador Retriever | 1 Year Old | Neutered Male | 52 Lbs

QUICK FACTS: ✔️ Good with cats!   ✔️ Crate trained!   ✔️ House trained!    🥰Snuggle Pup

Mr. Martin is a 1-year-old Lab mix who is equal parts smart, playful, and independent. He’s the kind of dog who learns new tricks almost faster than you can teach them — sometimes he even invents his own if it gets him a couple more snacks. He loves spending time with his people, whether that’s a training session, a game, or quietly chewing on a toy while you relax nearby.

Personality
At home, Mr. Martin is confident, social, and charming. Household noises like the roomba or hairdryer don’t faze him, and he does fine with having guests over. He’s playful and enthusiastic, and when he gets excited, his joy sometimes gets ahead of his manners — he may jump up, play with an open mouth, or do some gentle, playful nibbling. It’s never aggressive, just youthful exuberance, but it’s something his future family should be ready to help him continue polishing.

Training & smarts
Mr. Martin is fully house-trained and has never had an accident. He spends the workday peacefully in his kennel and happily sleeps through the night, either in his kennel or stretched out on the carpet. He gets adorably drowsy around 8–8:30 pm, making him the perfect companion for quiet evenings spent reading or watching a movie near his dog bed.

He knows sit, down, play dead, touch, and middle, and he’s very food-motivated — he’ll happily work for treats and may try to charm you with bonus tricks of his own creation. His stay and come are still works in progress, and he loves structured, positive training sessions.

Daily routine & energy
Mr. Martin has a medium energy level. He doesn’t need long walks, but he does benefit from one or two short walks each day to gently build confidence. He also thrives on mental enrichment, especially training sessions (about 3–4 short ones a day) and scent games like “find it.” Because of a knee injury, he can’t play fetch, but brain games and playful training are his favorite way to burn energy.

Out and about
The outside world can be a little scary for Mr. Martin right now. He’s fearful on leash and doesn’t like to stray far from home, especially if he sees other dogs — he’d much rather turn around and head back inside. He may occasionally bark at dogs or people while on walks, but he never pulls hard on the leash and is very safe and manageable to handle. Sometimes he’ll simply decide the walk is over and politely refuse to continue.

Social life
Mr. Martin is cat-friendly and mostly ignores them, and he’s not particularly interested in squirrels. He’s never met children, but based on his playful, mouthy excitement, he’d likely do best in a home without young kids for now, or with people willing to help him continue learning calmer play as he matures.

Ideal home
Mr. Martin would thrive in a patient, loving home that enjoys training and understands that confidence-building takes time. A fenced yard or easy access to a quiet, low-traffic area away from other dogs would be ideal. In return, you’ll get an incredibly smart, affectionate companion who loves learning, loves his people, and will happily snooze nearby while you wind down for the night.

If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, brainy dog who just needs a little reassurance as he grows into the world, Mr. Martin is ready to steal your heart.
