PUPDATE #2
My how Lola has grown in just a short amount of time. Consistency and a little discipline have proven to be very effective for Lola and now Her goofy loving self is really showing through.
Lola can now confidently walk around the neighborhood solo. Now that she is so confident sometimes her doggie greetings are a little boisterous, but Lola responds well to any corrections. On these walks she has had her first few greetings with children. She did very well, however, I would recommend supervision with smaller kids due to her enthusiasm for playing.
Lola also now roams freely at night and does not get into any mischief while we are sleeping.
We have started more training with Lola and she is proving to be a quick study. She knows sit, is doing well with wait and now sits and waits patiently for the OK command before getting her food.
She is a happy, high energy dog that loves her walks and play time with our resident dog. Since Lola’s entire time in foster care has included a doggie sibling I think she would be happiest in a home with another dog she can play with, however, she has gained enough confidence I think she would also be a successful solo dog. She is very sweet and loves to have her ears scratched for a few minutes after breakfast. Would you like to be the one to scratch her ears?
PUPDATE #1
We get Lola up around 7:00am and give her breakfast and let her out for a potty break. We have a resident dog that also gets up at this time so there is typically some play time early while we have breakfast and get ready for work. We work from home so Lola is not crated during the day. She does well just chilling on the floor with our resident dog while we work. Throughout the day as we have breaks she gets to go outside to potty and have short play dates. Depending on how the work day goes she gets either two 30 minute walks throughout the day or 1 hour long walk when my workday is done. She walks well in a harness with our resident dog. She gets fed a second time around 3:00pm. After the walk they get more play time in our fenced in back yard. Once we are ready to chill for the evening she chills out on the floor with us until about 10:30pm. Then it's out for a last potty break and bedtime, where she sleeps in our bathroom quietly for the night.
We haven't had new people in our home yet in the short time we have had Lola. She does very well meeting new dogs and people when we walk around the neighborhood.
Lola has not had exposure to children while in our care.
Lola is a medium to high energy dog. She gets a 1 hour walk every day along with some play time throughout the day with our resident dog. Lola walks well on a leash and does not pull. She does sometimes seem nervous when we have tried to walk her alone and will sometimes have a startle response to loud noises. Her response to loud noises is mild, she will often duck her head, look around and move to the other side of me, but will keep walking. We do use a harness to walk Lola as she has shown some reactivity to being given direction by pulling on her collar. This is not an aggressive reaction, she just tries to get away so you can't grab her collar. Once her collar is attached to a leash she takes leashed direction very well. Lola is still young, but I can see her still needing a good walk every day into adulthood.
Lola is great with our resident dog and also politely greets other dogs on our neighborhood walks. Sometimes she gets excited and tries to play on the leash, but responds to any correction provided.
Lola's previous foster had cats and indicated she was good with cats. We do not have cats and have not provided Lola with any Cat exposure.
Since Lola is not crate trained we contain her in our spare bathroom when we are gone. She quiets down right away and is not destructive at all. Her previous foster indicated she would leave her out while she was gone and that she was not destructive. We are working towards that as Lola settles into our home.
Lola was positive for Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, in July but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasmosis just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, she is currently being given a round of antibiotics.
Lola is doing great and is a really sweet dog. We have only had her for a short time so far and she is adjusting to her new home quickly. She shows some nervous behavior and would do well with someone who can recognize when she is nervous and continue to work with her. She would also love a dog sibling as having our resident dog around has helped her adjust and build her confidence. She has an independent personality and doesn't show interest in being on the furniture for snuggles, but she will come over and nudge your hand when she want some pets. We of course oblige her requests.
