Check out this video of Jensen here!

Jensen is a high energy adolescent mixed breed who could possibly be a Berenese Mountain Dog (he has the coloring and hair) and Border Collie (has the body, ears, intelligence, and energy). His DNA has not been tested but if you put one of his pics in a search these are the two breeds that come up.

Jensen is one of those gem dogs for people in the dog sports community. He is wicked smart, has a lot of energy, is very food motivated, and loves to train. He can spring straight up in the air to my head at 5’6”. This doggo loves having a job. He’s also a dog that seems to understand a lot of language. He hits bells by the door to go outside so if you wanted to try the talking buttons with him, I’m sure he could do it!

Currently Jensen lives with 3 other foster dogs and the resident dog. Three of the other dogs he lives with are medium-high energy.

Energy Level:

Jensen is a medium-high to high energy level dog. He will happily go on a 1.25 mile walk or longer in the evening. He’ll also play all evening with the high energy foster brothers. He is an adolescent so he is learning how to play appropriately with other dogs and humans. Jensen does test out play biting humans but easily redirects to a chew toy or dog. When there are other dogs around that want to play he will always be game. At the end of the day he’s happy to lay on the couch and snuggle or just lay alone. You will have to give him timeouts to nap because he has a hard time settling down if everyone wants to play.

Training:

Jensen and his foster Mom are attending Teacher’s Pet dog elementary school dog training classes. We’ll be learning quite a few skills in the class. If you would like to adopt Jensen during our class and would like to continue you will be able to do so at a reduced cost depending on how many weeks are left.

Currently we are working on capturing attention with watch and touch. We are also working on a bridge word recognition (good boy). We are also rewarding when he automatically gives attention and looks at us. Jensen already knows sit, down, stay, and wait. He loves playing the touch game for treats which can be very advantageous for a high energy pup like him.

Jensen does not pull on the leash when we go on walks (we walk as a pack) and is a dream to walk, if he gets his exercise. We always have treats with us to reward good behavior. Jensen will often check in with his foster Mom on walks. If he doesn’t get his required exercise he can be vocal when he sees another dog or get excited when he sees a squirrel. If another dog is barking he will bark back. We are working on positive re-inforcement training when this happens. Please remember he is an adolescent and is still learning appropriate behaviors to set him up to be the best version of himself.

Crate Training:

Jensen easily goes in a kennel without any fuss. He is fed in his kennel and gets chicken jerky when settling in for the work day. Once in there he will protest for a minute or two if he wasn’t done playing but quickly falls asleep. If he’s in his crate and others are getting to do fun training stuff without him he does persistently bark. If you leave with other dogs to go on a walk he’ll get jealous and bark.

Potty Training:

Jensen is potty trained! He’ll sit by the door when he has to go out or he’ll hit the bells. He will “go potty” on command.

Grooming:

Jensen’s hair will require occasional brushing. It’s currently ~2 inches long with longer whisps of hair throughout. He is easy to bathe and listens well.

Dogs:

Jensen loves all dogs and just wants to play.

Cats:

Jensen lives with 2 cats. He mostly ignores them and is not obsessed with them and does not try to hurt them. Occasionally he may bark at them.

Kids:

Jensen has met kids of all ages. If he doesn’t get his exercise he tends to jump at play bite at younger kids. Because of this kids are not recommended for Jensen. Because of his adolescent age he gets a little too rough and too excited. Teens that are extremely dog savvy would potentially be ok but we would highly recommend they be involved in training classes.

Car Rides:

Jensen loves a car ride. It typically means he gets to go somewhere fun.

This boy is a dream for someone who wants to do all the fun dog training classes and loves a high energy dog. He’s so smart and is ready to go all the time. Jensen needs strong leadership and someone who is dog savvy. During this phase of his life you need to treat him as if he is a toddler and you have to tell him what is best for him, like a nap.

Jensen is not a dog who will be happy just laying around, and only getting occasional exercise.
