Drager has been with my family for the past few months. He has settled in well and my two resident dogs don't mind the extra company. Drager is around 9 years old, a beautiful Australian Shepherd with a fox-like tail (brown, black in the middle and a white tip) that he wags and honestly, it looks like a fox tail. He's very floofy and soft.
He is actually coming out of his shell. He actually started play bowing to me and running (yes I said running) around in little circles, his tail wagging the whole time. It was the most adorable thing.
Drager is very quiet, except when he is hungry. Then he will woo-woo at you to let you know it's time to eat. He will also knock on our sliding patio door when he thinks he's been outside long enough. I call him my little ninja, as he will be in one spot one minute, and without making a sound, he is suddenly somewhere else in the house. It's quite amazing, really. He's like the weather tech guys but in dog form.
He definitely knows when it's "last call" at my house, which means the last time out for the night, and a higher value treat. He picked up on that pretty quickly.
I have also discovered that Drager loves children. I was walking him in the neighborhood and came across a little girls 6th birthday party. All of a sudden there were all of these little screaming girls coming toward us and Drager didn't blink an eye. He let them pet him with his tail wagging. I was so proud of him.
A fenced in yard is ideal for him as he tends to wander off course a bit and this keeps him safely where you can see him. He doesn't require a lot of exercise - a short walk around the neighborhood and putzing around in the yard seem to be just enough for him.
He does have some hearing loss in his right ear, probably due to age. Arthritis in his back legs was slowing him down, but I currently have him on VetriScience GlycolFlex Stage 3 and it has made a HUGE difference in his ability to get around (see paragraph 2 above). It doesn't require a prescription and comes in a nice chew which he loves.
Drager free roams during the day while we are at work and there hasn't been one issue or one accident. I have a low chest at the end of my bed and he uses that to get on the bed. He makes himself comfy by messing up my blankets and probably sleeps the day away.
I would keep him in a heartbeat if I could, but that would deny you and your family your perfect forever. Come meet him and you'll see what a great dog he is! 🐾♥
